Evaluative Criteria for New Sites Indexed in Refdesk:

    • No subscription/access fees
  2. Authority of the source
    • Author's credentials available
  3. Accuracy/comprehensiveness of information
    • Information range is wide in depth and scope;
    • Author's name listed along with way to contact
  4. Organization/clarity of presentation
    • Clear, intuitive layout, labeling, and indexing
  5. Objectivity in presenting information
    • Information free of author's or advertiser's biases
  6. Currency/timeliness
    • Information/links current and updated regularly as stated on web site
  7. Ease of connection/access, navigation, and use
    • Site can be viewed without fees or special browser software;
    • quick connection time;
    • site map available;
    • Free of burdensome advertising
  8. Legal, and family friendly
    • Site must be completely legal in all jurisdictions, and be free of trademark or copyright violations
    • Content must be appropriate for all audiences
    • If personal information is collected:
      • Site must comply with privacy regulations, including the CCPA
      • Site must have a privacy policy that clearly identifies a legal operating entity with a valid mailing address for service of legal process
  9. Prohibited new content categories
    • Sponsored or guest posts/articles
    • Individual blogs/articles on commercial websites
    • Referral services, buyers guides, or product/service opinion sites
    • Sites without comprehensive English language support
    • Computer security products or services
    • Gambling
