Help Support Refdesk |
Site Accessibility
Refdesk is best viewed at 1024 by 768 or higher screen
resolution using the most recent version of your browser.
1. TEXT SIZE Feedback is 78% for allowing the user's browser to determine the text size on the home page. For Internet Explorer users, there are two quick and easy ways to change text size: (1) on your browser's top menu, click on View then Text Size then make size selection, and (2) use the scroll-wheel on your mouse to increase/decrease text size while holding down the CTRL key (this also works in Netscape). To change font size with Netscape, click on Edit then Preference then on Appearance then Fonts and make your selection. (Refdesk recommendations: Internet Explorer 'medium' text size; Netscape, size 16 pixels). You may also want to consider using a font style from the proportional Serif family, such as Times New Roman. To select font style, using Internet Explorer, click on Tools then Internet Options then at the bottom, the Fonts button and on the left hand section named 'Web page font', select Times New Roman. You may want to experiment with different font styles to find the one you like best. Another choice is to underline or not underline links. Using Internet Explorer, to turn off underlined links, click on Tools then Internet Options then the Advanced tab then in the Browsing section, select the Never option under Underline Links. Click the Apply button at the bottom. Using Netscape, to turn off underline links, click on Edit then Preferences then on the left hand column, click Appearance then Colors and in the right hand side under LinkColors, uncheck the Underline links choice. Click the OK button at the bottom.
2. RANDOM LINKS
Feedback is 80% against having Random Features on the home page.
4. NEW WINDOW OPENS WHEN LINK CLICKED
Feedback is 81% against having a new window opened when you click on a refdesk link. For those who would like to see a new window, right mouse click while holding mouse over the link and select 'Open in New Window.' You can also open a new window by holding down the Shift key (Control key for Netscape) while left mouse clicking on a link.
4. CUSTOMIZING/PERSONALIZING REFDESK The high costs involved prohibit a 'My Refdesk,' or customized, personalized refdesk feature. I regret being unable to offer this often requested service.
